Bike Racing
Formula Femme
One of my biggest projects was co-founding and leading Formula Femme, New York’s first women/non-binary track cycling team. Through clinics, events, and mentorship, we doubled the number of women and non-binary racers at our local velodrome each year and inspired more people worldwide to try racing and form their own local teams through media, storytelling, and community building.
I handled everything from team sponsorships to organizing rides and equipment for new racers to advocating for parity and inclusion at local and national events regarding payouts, race times, and trans inclusion. Seeing our impact and growing a richer community inspired a deep commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and representation in other areas of my life and work. You can listen to an interview with Save the Track Bike podcast here.
I built my leadership skills while co-leading the team and being in the community by supporting each racer with growth plans and goals (and resources to get there), navigating conflicts and challenges with compassion, understanding, and accountability, and pushing for change in the broader ecosystem around inclusion and gender parity in races and payouts. I also became a certified race official in New York State and was an editor and writer for a women’s online cycling magazine Pretty Damned Fast.
Shadow Elite
I also served as team co-director for Shadow Elite Racing, an international women’s team after an injury. I managed creative direction, brand partnerships with companies including Cannondale, media partnerships with brands like Chrome, led community events like skills clinics, served as team photographer, videographer, and social media manager, and developed event activations at races like a pool party at a race in Chicago.
